Griffin Releases Gardening Industry Survey Sponsored by Bonide, Dramm, and Premier

Survey Shows Robust Influx of Home Gardening Could Last Well Beyond the Pandemic.

Results will be shared during the Griffin Virtual Expo in September

Tewksbury, Mass., September 15, 2020 – Griffin, one of the largest horticultural brokers and suppliers in the United States, released today gardening statistics related to COVID-19.  Survey data reveals how home gardening is continuing to take hold as an activity across the country.  The survey polled 1,000 respondents new to gardening in 2020 and data shows that a vast majority (80%) indicated that they will probably or absolutely continue to garden going into 2021.

Other Key Findings from the Survey Include:

        ·  Looking at the geographic data, all regions of the United States saw a relatively even breakdown of those that intended to continue to garden and those that did not.

        ·  1,000 respondents had all indicated that they had begun gardening within the last six months.

        ·  The West saw the highest intent (82.8% of users indicated they would probably or absolutely continue gardening) while the lowest intent came out of the Northeast (77.9%).

        ·  86.8% of users age 18-24 and 85.1% of users age 35-44 indicated that they intend to continue gardening after the pandemic. These age brackets represent the highest intent, while users age 55-65 represent the lowest intent (74.2%).

“Pandemic Gardening has become a ‘thing’, says Jim Rottenberg, Vice President of Retails Sales and Marketing for Griffin.”   “Our customers have been experiencing an influx of new customers particularly with new home gardeners, continued Rottenberg.  While gardening may not seem like an “essential” activity, many are turning to home gardening as a new way to cope during this pandemic. We are also finding that new home gardeners are ready to put their green thumbs to the test, are enjoying it, and will continue to garden past the pandemic.”
